Running of the Wools

For decades, Washington has had strong ties within the agriculture and farming community of the region. So much so that in the 19th century, Washington was the number one exporter of wool in the nation! These connections have been an important part of our history and also have a place in our future. This event is a fun way to showcase our region's wool and farming industry while highlighting downtown Washington's businesses, community partners, and rich history. We hope you can join us as we celebrate the importance of our farming community!

The idea for the Running of the Wools event was born at Liberty Pole Spirits  when Clay Kilgore, Executive Director of the Washington County Historical Society and Sarah Collier, now the Executive Director of the National Road Heritage Corridor, hashed out an outline for the event highlighting the close relationship the city and region has had with the farming and sheep industry.

In just three short year, the Running of the Wools has grown into one of Washington County's most anticipated and celebrated events.  And why wouldn't it?  Nowwhere else in American will you find sheep racing down Main Street, cheered on by thousands of enthusiastic spectators.

Spirits in the Garden

Spirits in the Garden is a garden party that will combine distilled spirits from local distilleries, wineries and breweries with the spirits of Washington County’s past. Interpreters will be representing Madeleine, who is considered the first lady of Washington.
